The Vagina Monologues

The stage reading of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues took part at Rijeka Summer Nights Festival 2016 in Rijeka, Croatia and was organized by PaRiter, association for human rights and civic participation from Rijeka and coproduced with Croatian National Theatre Ivana Pl. Zajca, Rijeka.

Women of different age, various backgrounds, professions, nationalities, religious views and sexual orientation who live and work in Rijeka area read the monologues and introduced the audience to painful facts and fun anecdotes which most women experience in their lives and can identify with.

The Vagina Monologues is an award winning episodic play written by Eve Ensler, translated in more than 30 languages. The play is based on interviews Ensler conducted with many women from all over the world about different aspects of feminine experience; from sex, masturbation and love, to rape and female genital mutilation, menstruation and birth. Some stories are painful, disturbing, others are gentle and funny, full of hope and newly found happiness. The Monologues help to empower women to be aware of their strength and self-worth, to confidently accept themselves and be able to express who they really are without shame, guilt or bias.
